About ACCESS AIDS CareGet TestedTake Action with ACCESS AIDS Care
METRO 757

vanMetro757 is a program of ACCESS AIDS care that offers free, confidential HIV testing through OraQuick and Clearview Complete.  These are rapid HIV tests that provide results in 15 to 20 minutes.  Each test requires a single drop of blood obtained through a finger stick.

The test is processed immediately and results provided in the same session.  All individuals receive both pretest and posttest counseling to ensure that they understand the meaning of the results and can discuss their risk factors with a trained counselor.  When a rapid test is positive, an additional confirmatory test is performed.  We use OraSure for our confirmatory testing.

OraSure requires an oral sample that is collected by swabbing the gums for 2 minutes with the device.  This sample is sent to a laboratory for testing.  Results are available within 7 to 10 business days.  Posttest counseling will be provided to all individuals on their confirmatory test results.  When an individual is confirmed HIV-positive, our counselors will refer the individual to appropriate services including medical care and case management if necessary.   HIV testing is available at all locations.

Call any of the offices to schedule your test.  Testing is available on the same day.  We also do community screenings through our mobile unit, METRO757.  To schedule a community screening, call 757-640-0929, ext. 16.

Extended HIV Testing Hours untill 7 pm at the Granby Street office on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month and at the Hampton office on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. Walks-in are welcome.
