Access Aids

Community PROMISE is a community level intervention designed to change social norms around HIV risk behavior through the distribution of role model stories to the target population.  Community PROMISE is implemented with African American transgender women.

For the Transgender Community, ACCESS AIDS Care has developed a transgender medical clinic called the “Transition Your Life Clinic” or TLC.

After opening in April 2008, our mission has been to provide transgender people with specialized care that includes free services such as confidential HIV testing, health screenings and prescriptions for hormone therapy.  We want to serve you to the best of our ability and hope that your experience with us will help you with your health care needs.

With both interventions, members of the target population are interviewed about changes they have made in their behavior (e.g. Using condoms, abstaining from sex, etc.).  These interviews are turned into role model stories that are given to others in the target population to encourage changes in their behavior.  Written stories are created for both the youth and transgender populations.  For the youth, stories also are turned into downloadable mp3s.  We recruit peer advocates for both interventions to distribute the role model stories because people are more apt to listen to their peers.
