Elton John AIDS Foundation gives ACCESS AIDS Care a grant to develop Hampton Roads' first LGBT Service Center
[January 2011] ACCESS AIDS Care has received funding from the Elton John AIDS Foundation to develop a community center for LGBT services in Hampton Roads. The goal of the center will be to provide services for all LGBT persons, including a comprehensive mental health component. The center will also provide much needed educational programs around legal issues, intimate partner violence, and suicide prevention, especially for youth. Funding through EJAF will allow for the rental of project space to create the first, and only, LGBT service center in the region. This project will give the LGBT community a safe, welcoming space for services and "free community space" for its partners. Exciting news for ACCESS AIDS Care and the Hampton Roads community!
ACCESS AIDS Care Receives Grant for Mobile Testing Unit
[December 2010] ACCESS AIDS Care received a grant through the City of Norfolk Ryan White program to lease and operate a mobile testing unit! Our staff has been trained and our "Metro 757" van has been secured and wrapped...so we are on the road! This grant allows us to perform more free, confidential HIV tests within the vehicle, wherever people are waiting or events are happening. Testing is still available at our Granby Street and Hampton House locations, but now we can also go where people in our community need us. So next time you see the Metro 757 vehicle in your area, give a honk or a wave and encourage our testers to keep up the good work!
