ACCESS AIDS Care and The LGBT Center of Hampton Roads Statement on the Orlando Shooting

Norfolk, VA - News of the shooting at The Pulse in Orlando shocked and saddened many throughout Hampton Roads.  We mourn the more than 50 dead, their families and pray for the injured.  June 12 will mark a sad day for our community nationwide.  ACCESS AIDS Care and the LGBT Center of Hampton Roads stands in solidarity with the LGBT community and its allies in Hampton Roads and similar organizations nationwide.

"This morning’s shootings can have an overwhelming negative impact on individuals in the LGBT community.  While our thoughts are with the families of the dead and with the wounded in Orlando, at times of tragedies such as this, we also need to focus resources on assisting those in our community who may be having difficulties processing and handling this news.  Today is a day for everyone allied with the LGBT community to practice self-care and come together in solidarity and support one another,”said Stacie Walls-Beegle, Executive Director of ACCESS AIDS Care and the LGBT Center of Hampton Roads.

The LGBT Center of Hampton Roads offers onsite clinical mental health counseling and care for community members. If you or someone you know may benefit from speaking to a counselor about this tragedy, please call (757) 200-9198 to schedule an appointment or visit our website at www.accessaids.org.
